The now Vienna-based artist Simon Lehner studied at the University of Art and Design Linz and since 2015 in the Department of Applied Photography and Time-Based Media at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. His Upper Austrian home is the central motif in his photo book Jaga, which was published in 2017 by Fotohof edition. In 2018 he won the "Paris-Photo Carte Blanche Award" with his series "How far is a lightyear?" and was published in The British Journal of Photography, Die Zeit or L'umoi Vogue.
Photographer and archivist: In his project Koal, which has been running since 2013, Simon Lehner also incorporates old photographs, VHS and Super 8 recordings from the younger years of his grandfather. For the artist, the project represents a conversation with time, aging, the fear of loss as well as a new chapter in the family archive.
