The Garden for Refugees
The community garden in the district Floridsdorf is truly one of the most multicultural ones in the city.
Operated by Samariterbund, Haus Winkeläckerweg offers a temporary home and safe shelter for families from crisis areas (from almost 15 different countries) during their asylum procedure. The collectively used garden of the house is very popular, and its multicultural flair gives variety and a welcome sense of community in the often harsh everyday life. Volunteer gardeners assist with their know-how, and the number of gardeners is growing steadily. They are especially proud of the collectively used areas like the herb bed or the candy hedge.
